There’s plenty of control for basic sonic shaping through to more advanced harmonisation features ![]() This type of feature isn’t something you’d necessarily expect to find on such a portable unit, and it will be convenient for solo performers in search of a bigger sound. The harmony effect works well in practice, adding unison voices to your singing though it prefers a vocal performed with confidence to function optimally. A foot switch input lets you turn harmony or reverb on or off, making them practical performance tools, not just window dressing. When using a mic, you can use the harmony knob to add digital harmonies to your vocals, with different settings on the dial for differently pitched harmonies – unison, high and higher. The mic/instrument channel is switchable to suit the source and has a three-band EQ and reverb control. With your mic and guitar connected, you can use the onboard effects to add some sparkle to your performance without the need for external effects pedals. The Boss FS-6 is an optional extra and is required to make the looper operate for performances This signal gets sent in stereo to the speakers, and there’s a dedicated input level knob to control its volume. Typically a performer would connect a guitar and a mic to these inputs, but it’s also possible to use the iCube Link/Aux In mini-jack on the rear panel to connect a phone or other playback device to provide a backing track. The first input has a jack socket for guitar and mic inputs, and the second has an XLR mic/instrument combo socket. ![]() It has a decent amount of versatility for inputs. The upward-facing design helps direct sound at your audience rather than along the ground and also gives it a dual function as a wedge monitor when part of a larger PA setup. In use, it’s surprisingly loud at full power, its two 6.5 inch speakers producing a crisp and direct middle and top end as well as a decent bass, especially if you customise the EQ settings to suit your performance. Boss quotes a battery life of up to eight hours when using the full 10W of power, or a little longer if you flip on the Eco Mode switch, which throttles output down to 5W. ![]() The Cube Street II comes with a mains adapter but can also power from 8 AA batteries.

![]() As of 2011, Warren's music has appeared in the soundtracks of over sixty films. EMI Music's London office assisted in distributing 1,200 copies of the box set primarily to the film and television industry for consideration in soundtracks and other commercial endeavors. In 1998, Realsongs and its international partner, EMI Music Publishing, distributed A Passion For Music, a six-CD box set that showcased her music. The original name for her publishing company, Realsongs, was "Warren Piece" because "War and Peace" was already taken. As in the case of the great nineteenth-century reclusive New England poet known for her simple yet eloquent verses, Warren leads a life focused almost entirely on her art. She's actually more like the Emily Dickinson of Pop. Warren's first hit was "Solitaire", which Laura Branigan took to No. ![]() She wrote Celine Dion's 1996 song "Because You Loved Me" as a tribute to her father for his encouragement. She attended Los Angeles Pierce College and graduated from California State University, Northridge in 1978, but largely considered her education a waste as she focused most of her time on improving her songwriting skills instead of on her education. On the Februedition of All Things Considered, Warren said that she had been molested at age 12, and had later experienced sexual harassment and assault by a sound engineer during her working career. ![]() In addition, he bought her a 12-string guitar and a metal shed for her to practice and took her to music auditions. However, her father continued to believe in her and encouraged her. ![]() She began writing music when she was 11 but took a more serious approach at 14, commenting "music saved me." Warren has said that her mother asked her to give up her dream of a songwriting career and take a secretarial job. She was also influenced by music through her parents and her sisters who would play music. Warren says she was rebellious as a child and told NPR's Scott Simon that she got into trouble and ran away as a teen but returned because she missed her cat.Īs a child, Warren loved listening to the radio and dreamed of performing on the radio herself. Her family's surname "Warren" was originally "Wolfberg", but her father changed the name because he wanted it to sound less Jewish. Warren, the youngest of three daughters, was born to David, an insurance salesman, and Flora Warren, in the Los Angeles community of Van Nuys, where she said she felt misunderstood and "alienated" as a child growing up. Her debut album was released on August 27, 2021. She controls the rights over her music through her publishing company, Realsongs. Her UK success saw her win an Ivor Novello Award when she received the Special International Award in 2008. She has been inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. She has won a Grammy Award, an Emmy Award, two Golden Globe Awards, three consecutive Billboard Music Awards for Songwriter of the Year, and has been nominated for thirteen Academy Awards. Two of the top 13 hits in the Hot 100's 57-year history were composed by Warren. Warren has written nine number-one songs and 32 top-10 songs on the Billboard Hot 100 including "If I Could Turn Back Time" (Cher, 1989), "Because You Loved Me" (Celine Dion, 1996), "How Do I Live" (LeAnn Rimes, 1997), and "I Don't Want to Miss a Thing" (Aerosmith, 1998). She has been rated the third most successful female artist in the UK. In the late 1980s, she joined forces with the UK music company EMI, where she became the first songwriter in the history of Billboard magazine to have seven hits, all by different artists, on the singles chart at the same time, prompting EMI's UK Chairman Peter Reichardt to call her "the most important songwriter in the world". Warren's career was jump-started in 1985 with "Rhythm of the Night" by DeBarge. Diane Eve Warren (born September 7, 1956) is an American songwriter, musician, and record producer. While the team has confidence they will find a home, it is an urgent matter for a growing sport in a town with 13 professional sports teams. And any pro stadium brings high costs and scheduling conflicts. The team has had talks with almost every college in the New York/New Jersey area, but due to strict COVID-19 restrictions, no visitors are allowed on campuses any time soon. Their first scheduled home game is April 18th. Rugby United starts the season with four road games. And then at the end of the day, it builds a bit of character builds a bit of camaraderie." So they got some shovels and went to work.īarkeley laughs about it, saying, "It's comical, but it's just one more thing. They don't expect anyone else to do it for them." Salizzo says, "It's funny because the players showed up for training and I said, 'Well, that's really cool, but you know, you have to clear out some snow before you can go for a run.' And rugby players are great. And, the people at Berry Lane Park (in Jersey City across the street from the warehouse) have made this available to us, which is amazing," says Salizzo with a big smile as he stands on the sideline at Berry Lane Park watching RUNY Practice.Īnd while the artificial turf at Berry Lane Park is all clear now, last month the Rugby United Players themselves had to dig out several feet of snow, to clear an area, just so they could practice. "So we found this warehouse in Jersey City, and, the boys built their own gym from scratch. It was right before the season was to start, and most of the players were already in town to start training camp. He also had to find a new place for the team to train, after they were not permitted back on campus at Wagner College, where they had previously been training, practicing, and called their home base. Salizzo was brought in from New Zealand to help Rugby United find a stadium in time for their home schedule. So we normally would play our games at MCU Park, but it's no longer available for us." Ric Salizzo, Rugby United’s Senior Consultant says, "Because of COVID, there's been some changes to the minor league schedule. ![]() Due to the pandemic, they lost their home stadium, MCU Park in Coney Island where the Mets Minor League affiliate, the Brooklyn Cyclones play, and where the Mets will have an alternate site due to continued health protocols in Major League Baseball. And so to be able to come over here and, really try and grow the game of rugby is something that really excites me," Ellis says.īut Rugby United New York is facing major challenges. "American people love sports, they love entertainment. And yet, Ellis traveled to the other side of the world to continue his career, where rugby isn’t nearly as popular. RUNY boasts a talented international roster with players from Argentina, Brazil, Fiji, and of course New Zealand, where rugby is arguably the most popular sport in the country. Rugby United won their opening match, beating San Diego on the road 36-29. ![]() But it’s changing, people are learning the game and I think now, people recognize the sport," Brakeley says. "When we first started, we'd go out and people ask if we were a soccer team, the Knicks dancers even. And while rugby is a popular sport on many college campuses, Nate Brakeley, who played rugby at Dartmouth University and is now in his fourth season with RUNY, says he continues to see the popularity of rugby grow.
![]() So does the fetus dream when in REM sleep? This isĪfter birth, dream content is informed by recent and more remote memories. Although consciousness during dreams is not the same as during wakefulness-most noticeably insight and self-reflection are absent-dreams are consciously experienced and felt. When people awaken during REM sleep, they often report vivid dreams with extensive narratives. From all this evidence, neonatologists conclude that the fetus is asleep while its brain matures. The lamb embryo now moves and breathes continuously. The role of the placenta in maintaining sedation is revealed when the umbilical cord is closed off while keeping the fetus adequately supplied with oxygen. What is fascinating is the discovery that the fetus is actively sedated by the low oxygen pressure (equivalent to that at the top of Mount Everest), the warm and cushioned uterine environment and a range of neuroinhibitory and sleep-inducing substances produced by the placenta and the fetus itself: adenosine two steroidal anesthetics, allopregnanolone and pregnanolone one potent hormone, prostaglandin D 2 and others. In late gestation the fetus is in one of these two sleep states 95 percent of the time, separated by brief transitions. These stages correspond to rapid-eye-movement (REM) and slow-wave sleep common to all mammals. Their different EEG signatures go hand in hand with distinct behaviors: breathing, swallowing, licking, and moving the eyes but no large-scale body movements in active sleep no breathing, no eye movements and tonic muscle activity in quiet sleep. Called active and quiet sleep, these states can be distinguished using electroencephalography. Invasive experiments in rat and lamb pups and observational studies using ultrasound and electrical recordings in humans show that the third-trimester fetus is almost always in one of two sleep states. But this notion disregards the unique uterine environment: suspended in a warm and dark cave, connected to the placenta that pumps blood, nutrients and hormones into its growing body and brain, the fetus is asleep. And as it is so much easier to observe and interact with a preterm baby than with a fetus of the same gestational age in the womb, the fetus is often considered to be like a preterm baby, like an unborn newborn. By this time, preterm infants can survive outside the womb under proper medical care. Thus, many of the circuit elements necessary for consciousness are in place by the third trimester. Roughly two months later synchrony of the electroencephalographic (EEG) rhythm across both cortical hemispheres signals the onset of global neuronal integration. Its physical substrate, the thalamo-cortical complex that provides consciousness with its highly elaborate content, begins to be in place between the 24th and 28th week of gestation. It is therefore likely that the baby has some basic level of unreflective, present-oriented consciousness.īut when does the magical journey of consciousness begin? Consciousness requires a sophisticated network of highly interconnected components, nerve cells. A more complex behavior is imitation: if Dad sticks out his tongue and waggles it, the infant mimics his gesture by combining visual information with proprioceptive feedback from its own movements. Exposure to maternal speech sounds in the muffled confines of the womb enables the fetus to pick up statistical regularities so that the newborn can distinguish its mother’s voice and even her language from others. And linguistic capacities in babies are shaped by the environment they grow up in. The infant’s visual acuity permits it to see only blobs, but the basic thalamo-cortical circuitry necessary to support simple visual and other conscious percepts is in place. A shrug and “I dunno-it seemed like a good idea at the time” is the most you’ll hear.Īlthough a newborn lacks self-awareness, the baby processes complex visual stimuli and attends to sounds and sights in its world, preferentially looking at faces. Anybody who has raised a boy is familiar with the blank look on your teenager’s face when you ask him why he did something particularly rash. Even older children who can speak have very limited insight into their own actions. It is well recognized that infants have no awareness of their own state, emotions and motivations. But all that is not the same as being conscious, of experiencing pain, seeing red or smelling Mom’s milk. Its eyes are wide open, it wriggles and grimaces, and, most important, it cries. MOTHERS will want to crucify me for this seemingly cruel question, but it needs to be posed: How do we know that a newly born and healthy infant is conscious? There is no question that the baby is awake. ![]() ADSL routers: WAN and LANĪDSL routers present yet another layer of complexity to the communication between the SCP and the SCU. ![]() Most of these problems do not exist with C-GET, but unfortunately, very few commercial DICOM SCPs support C-GET, so for now it is necessary to work around them as described above.
